Description

Isfahan / Esfahan, under Shah Abbas the great, was the Persian capital and had a famous Royal manufacture of carpets. Favorite models, apart from the familiar animal models and hunting scenes, were richly decorative of the Safavid period. Thus, the famous carpet of the Emperor of Austria could be done in Isfahan. During the reign of Shah Abbas, Isfahan has been influenced by the 'Heart' design; no doubt Chinese artists have also affected the design of the Royal manufacture. Chintamani, bats, etc., have been borrowed by the Persian artists of Chinese porcelain. The Influence of the latter in Isfahan seems evident in the the design pattern and the Herati border that sometimes are visible at the end of Isfahan carpet. In addition to this kind of model is a preference for the traditional palmettes, whose origin dates back to the classical period. The arabesque, also had appeared in the East in the middle ages, was relaunched in Isfahan, and its components, the tendril forked and the calyx flare, are also used. It is unknown when the factory stopped production Court, but it was certainly before the beginning of the 18th century.
