Description

The first Indian wool carpets made in the 16th century by the Mongols in the Punjab region. These fabrications were largely influenced by Persian art. Unlike the Iran carpets whose patterns vary from one region to another, Indian carpets have relatively constant sets.
Their artistic levels are of course not that carpets from Iran, but on the other hand have an essential quality: the quality/price ratio. The main producing towns are Jaypoor, Agra, Amitsar, and Varanasi. Silk carpets are produced in the mountainous regions of Kashmir. They are easily recognizable by their flower design with or without central medallions, either by their gardens, repetitive chequered sets containing each of the ancient symbols.Their colors are also very characteristic, salmon, Apricot and turquoise tones are very often dominant.
A very large selection of these rugs is available at Galaxy International.
